John Booth Bio

John's first steps into the mechanical world came when he designed and converted a bicycle into having front and rear telescopic suspension. He did this by using metal tubing and car engine valve springs. This was in 1948 at the young age of 10. His love of anything mechanical spurred him on and, after graduating from London University with an automotive degree he took an apprenticeship with Rolls Royce. He was a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers. He has worked on many makes of European cars and North American models.

However he loved American cars so much he was the only R.R. technician with a U.S. car in their parking lot. His other love was playing baseball and he became a professional in the International league that played in Europe. After 6 years with the USAF he eventually came to live in NA. being offered a job with the Chrysler Corporation.

He joined Hamilton's 900CHML radio station back in 1990 after a staff member who, was talking about a problem with the company van asked John if he knew anything about cars.....John solved the problem and the rest as they say, is history. Seventeen years on he is still giving advice and, is still part of the 900CHML team.

He also broke into TV with a series on the U.S. cable channel "Speed" by being the co-host of the series "Classic Car Restoration." He is currently shooting his own series called " Nostalgia Unlimited" in which he takes you back into all that's the fifties.

Car Question Of The Week

Friday January 2:

Question:
2005 Kia Sedona 6 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 100, 000 kms when I turn the key I hear a ticking sound sometimes. Today the car did not want to turn over. It seems fine now. I don't know if it could be the battery. or maybe the starter
Spike - Chatham

ANSWER:
Sounds more like your battery. Be sure you have 12volts at your battery, if not have it checked out and charged up. If it wont hold 12 volts replace it. Also check to see if you have around 14volts at the battery when engine is running. If not, have your alternator checked to be sure it is working right. Also check your battery cables and be sure your battery terminals are clean and making good contact.

Good Luck!

Dr. John
